It's pretty good if your study subject is about printing. Granted, printing is not a fancy field much less with monitors around, but anyone who wants to have a general grasp of printing processes should take a look at this book. I got it as a rental for a class, but it turned out to be so useful and rich in information that I went ahead and actually bought a copy for my personal library. Never know where one will end up working.
The authors have taken on a complicated subject and have done a pretty good job. Three things to be aware of: 1) the book is full of typos, which get pretty distracting, although you can easily figure out what is meant. I just read a short section on one topic and there are up to three typos per page. 2) the book was translated into English from Swedish, I think, and the translation is sometimes awkward, making some of the detailed and technical concepts hard to understand. 3) many of the terms must be European. I've worked in print production at large commercial and publication printers for over 40 years, and there are terms in this book I've never heard of!But. . . all in all, this book provides a good explanation of the concepts that are important in understanding how printing works.

The book is full of wonderful information that any graphics student/enthusiast should know, but EVERY page it seems has HUGE typos. Some words are even the complete wrong word "dot" instead of "does" or "pwdr" instead of "powder". This book isn't that expensive, but when I'm learning something or referring to a book for information (instead of the unreliable internet) I want to be confident in the information I am gathering. Due to the many typos I am not always sure their information is right. On a happier note, the print quality is awesome and the design work is something I would expect a graphics book to look like. So, 4 1/2 stars on the graphics side, 1 star on the grammatical portion and 3 on the info only because I am not always so confident in the information.
good textbook.
This book which I was looking for a long time ago simply satisfied all my expectations around clear main concepts and process around graphic print production. From the history of PC's, color systems, pre-press management and post-press alternatives, with a helpful explanation we can understand perfectly the whole world of this amazing industry.For the future we hope translations in another languages, and of course more tips about how to implement a cost estimation program. Anyway, I recommend this books for graphic designers and for any professional interested in this industry.
There is good information in this book, but to find it you must dig through a heap of grammatical errors and typos. I wish I had known this beforehand, because I would not have settled for this massive mistake of a text book. Not to mention, this is the Second Edition. I would hate to see all the mistakes in the First. If we, as college students and/or designers, are going to spend time reading through this book, someone over at Wiley Publishing should have taken the time to do so - and make corrections. To find the information I need, I am not going to weed through broken sentences. I would suggest that you make every attempt to avoid this book.
